My camera takes good pictures….

I shouldn’t but I just have to share this….

I get this alot.  It doesn’t really bother me when people say it but some photographers get really upset.

Yes, a good camera can make a big difference.  But it is also the lens, the lighting, and yep it does make a difference who is taking the picture.  Just like any tool you have to know how to use it.   Oh and the editting afterwards.  I personally shoot in RAW so I adjust each and every image I take.  Everything gets adjusted for color, contrast and sharpened.

If you got a new camera for Christmas and you are finding out that it isn’t as easy as you thought to get great pictures trying reading this book…Understanding Exposure

I have the book, and it is awesome.  If you sit down and really read it and also pick up your camera and test things out like it tells you too, I promiss you will become a better photographer.  It might be too much for you if you just have a point and shoot and can’t do much manual setting except the ISO but if you have any SLR camera get the book!!!!  You won’t regret it.

And for those of you that think you have to have great equipment to get great photos…think again.  A photographer traveled around the world for a month taking photos with his cell phone.  Here are a few of the shots he got…

I don’t know what you think, but those are some pretty good shots, and all were taken with a cell phone!!!  If you want to see more of his cell phone shots they can be found here…. http://www.thephotographicadventuresofnickturpin.com  (ps, he even had an exhibition of his photos in London- not too shabby since they were just taken with a cell phone LOL)

I better go make dinner now.  Despite the fact that I have some pretty nice cookware, I am still unable to make great meals.  Oh well, maybe if I bought a nicer set that would help.  (wink, wink)

WhatTheDuck is the comic interpretation of my inner thoughts. :) Always a great read.

The nicer the camera the better the photo! – exactly why I bought a Holga to escape the “nice camera” realm for a while and just enjoy snapping, no instant review, no downloads, no wireless slideshows… just… a $25 plastic film camera with a good mix of ugliness and cool. Some of the film shots were favorites that made their way into wedding albums no less. :)

Low tech might just be the wave of the future.
