Northern Indiana Photographer: Maggie, Jared and their awesome parents

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The other day I photographed one of the most amazing families I know.  My cousin Rodney, his wife Rachel and their kids Jared and Maggie.

Rodney is my cousin.  Rod has always excelled at everything he has done in life.  When he was in high school he was a big basketball star, when he worked for the local PBS station he was a TV star.  Well, now he is a star dad to Maggie and Jared, which really is the most important thing he has ever done.  His kids are super lucky to have him as a dad, and then they hit the jackpot with Rachel as a mom.

In Feburary Rod and Rachel’s  little baby girl only 3 years old was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.  It has been a rough several months.  If you follow their caringbridge website you know that.  Their life has and will never be the same.  However even though their life is now filled with medical concerns they are still the same fun and crazy family they were before February. I am glad I got to photograph them at home having a fun afternoon and at least for alittle while we all forgot about our troubles and had fun acting goofy.

Gonna start off with my favorite couple pictures.  Rod asked me to capture how Maggie rubs his face.  She likes to check to see if his face is smooth or scratchy.  (Rod I have to admit I had a hard time not sheading a tear.  It is the Grandma Jernas in me, I just loved watching you guys interact, I am so glad I got to witness that special moment)

Rachel wanted me to take pictures of them having a tea party. Rachel collects tea cups and pots so it was the perfect photo opportunity.

I know Maggie isn’t looking at the camera, but I love this next photo of the kids.  Jared- you are such a cutie pie, keep hugging Maggie tight and being a good big brother.

I just love these next to shots of Rachel and Maggie.  Sorry Rachel for posting, but how could I not.  You guys are just too darn cute.

Jared takes after his dad ALOT, can’t you tell.  Oh and he is such a smart kid.  He read one of Maggie’s favorite books and my jaw hit the ground.  He is only in Kindergarden but was easily reading the book.

Thanks for the fun afternoon gang.

I thought it was neat that Bob grabbed a shot of it from above.  You have to look closely to see it, but cool that it was taken the same time I took mine.

What an awesome wedding!!!  If you didn’t have fun, it was your own fault.  The DJ had the dance floor rockin and Bob had the photo booth going.  I am sad that it is all over.  Sarah and Jon were so easy to work with which makes my day more fun.  (Do you think we could all get together again on their first anniversary??)

Jon and Sarah were married on Saturday.  It was a beautiful day, I got some amazing pictures and I will be sharing them very soon.  But first I had to post the photos from their Photo Booth.   Jon and Sarah are a fun couple, and their family and friends are fun and crazy just like they are.  If you don’t believe me just check out a few photos that Bob took at their wedding day photo booth.  PS (future brides and grooms this was so much fun, I am going to offer this as a add-on, so ask me for details)

This next photo I think I took because he was in the group picture and I am like, you have to get a picture by yourself.  For some reason I couldn’t stop laughing.

Huge thanks to my hubby Bob for doing such a great job.  I had so many nice comments about him that night.  Everyone had a good time in the photo booth and told me what a great husband I had.  That totally made my night.  Here is a photo of Bob in action…

If you had fun in the photo booth leave a comment and let everyone know.  I hope to do this at more weddings and events.

Thanks Jon, Sarah and all the guests for a wonderful day.  I will be posting wedding photos in the next couple days.  To see the rest of the photo booth photos go to my STOREFRONT.

Matt did an awesome job.  He was pretty comfortable in front of the camera and it shows in his pictures.  I have had so many awesome seniors lately, I am so lucky.

Huge thanks to Matt’s dad.  While I was taking Matt’s pictures his dad hung out with my kids while they played outside with my niece.  It was a huge deal to Samantha for her PE teacher to be at her house and talking to her.  She is so lucky to have the best teachers.

Matt, thanks for being so easy to photograph!!!  And good luck Matt in this upcoming basketball season.  I will for sure make it to a few of your games with camera in hand.

If you are on my personal facebook you have already heard about Wade.  He’s the one that has been on a couple shoots before and still decided to have me do his senior pictures.   He was okay with how dorky I am.  I think the last time I seen him was when he went with to Gary’s shoot it was freezing cold, and Wade was in charge of Gary’s dog.  It was one of those had to be there kind of days so I won’t go into details because I will be sitting her laughing and the rest of you would be saying to yourselves, “what is she talking about??”

Anyways, thanks Wade for having me do your senior pictures and I am glad your mom got to come with you.  And note to Wanatah and Hanna folks… I am only a few minutes away.  Spread the word Wade!!!

PS  I hope your dad likes that first picture on here, I think it is neat that you took pics with his guitar.

What a beautiful day Knox had today for the groundbreaking celebration.  Reagent Chemical and Research, North America’s largest private owner of rubber lined rail cars has started constuction at the location in Knox for its newest rail car facility.

Thanks to Charlie Weaver and staff for putting on such a great celebration.  I enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with some old friends.

I just couldn’t resist.  If you know this group you totally understand.

This session was unique.  (thought I was gonna say fun didn’t you.)  I think unique describes it the best.  There was a whole gang at this photo shoot.  For some people that wouldn’t be good but Stef and Shandell did great.  I wish I would have turned the video feature of my camera on while Sarah left the shoot.  I can’t get her voice out of my head.  She was yelling, “Run little deer!”  I am sure the hunter in the nearby woods didn’t think it was very funny.

Thanks all for the super crazy evening!!!  It’s too bad I was soo tired and Sarah had to get back to Chicago or I could have beatin’ you all at Wii!

Crystal, her mom and her dad were so nice to work with.  My power went out several hours before her session and after talking to someone from REMC I had not worries that it would be back on by the time we needed to do studio shots.  Well it didn’t work out that way.  It was still out when they came.  My husband came to the rescue and got the generator running for me.  I was back in business until… the generator ran out of gas.  LOL  Luckily I had some in the garage and Cyrstal’s dad helped me get it going again.  I hated that the day was so crazy but I am glad it happened when I was shooting Crystal, because they were so understanding and helpful.

Crystal, I will never forget your session.  BTW, I may be calling you some day to help my daughter out in the art department, I think she is gonna be a great artist some day!

I can’t wait until Gayle and Chris’ wedding. It’s gonna be lots of fun and I love working with couples like them that are comfortable in front of the camera.

This was the first time I met Chris and we had such a wonderful meeting. For those of you that are on my facebook you know that I have an attack rooster (aka Dead Chicken)…. well the rooster got out again and chased me as I went to the studio. Chris saved the day though and waved a broom at it and scared it away. He is a smart a$$ though because I asked him how he did that (because it wasn’t scared of me when I did that) and he said, “well I held the handle like this..) whatever, I am just glad it stayed away then.
