Starke County 4-H Fair Coming Soon!!

Friday, July 10th, 2009

The Starke County Indiana 4-H Fair is July 11th-18th Hamlet Fairgrounds.   For those of you that have never been… It’s fun and it’s free.  (can’t get much better then that)

I want to tell all the 4-H’ers good luck and be safe.  I will be taking pictures throughout the week for the Newshawk.  After the fair I will post all the photos in the storefront so make sure you check for that.

Some things I want to mention….

-Monday night is the Ham and Bean Dinner 5pm.  Eli Roska makes the beans and Burkett’s Catering makes the chicken and noodles and the corn bread.

-Wednesday at 6:30 is the Stick Horse Fun Show.  Bob and I started this a few years ago and it is a blast.  It is for kids 5 and under.  They need to bring their stick horse with but if they don’t have one I have one they can borrow for the barrell race.  It doesn’t cost anything for them to enter and they will all get participation ribbons and western coloring books.  (thanks Speciality Shop in Knox for always donating the ribbons)  Spread the word to anyone you think would be interested

-Look for Samantha’s exploring 4-H project.  Her poster board is blue with birds on it and her picture is on it as well.  If you see her around fair make sure you tell her you seen it.  She is pretty proud of it.  She also made a picture of a horse that will be in the open class building.  She is my little artist.

SEE YOU ALL AT THE FAIR!!

Glad to be back in Indiana!!!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I have been out of town with my husband’s family in TN.  We all rented an amazing house way out in the middle of no where (about 20 mins from Gatlinburg).  It started out good, but then my Mother-in-law ended up in the hospital.  She is coming home right now on oxygen.  We will all be glad when she makes it back home.

I have lots of stories to share.  We seen a bear cub on the Roaring Fork in the National Forest, Bob and some kids got stung by hornets on alittle walk we went on by the cabin, we seen sharks at the aquarium, our car battery went dead, Jennifer’s (my niece) car tire went totally flat.  Really tooo much excitement for one vacation that is for sure.

Today I will be returning phone calls, emails and editting the enitre day.  I want to say huge thanks to my recent sessions that waited until I got back to see pictures.  I will have them done today!!!

Periodically I will post pictures and tell about our vacation on facebook.  If you are bored feel free to add me as a friend to hear them.  I will post a few pictures on here later this week I hope.

Starke County Indiana Relay For Life 2009

Monday, June 15th, 2009

The Relay For Life was a huge success.  I heard that about $27,000 was raised.  WOW!!  That is great.  It really was such an amazing evening.  Huge thanks to all fellow committe members that worked throughout the year.  It seemed like there was more people this year, more fun stuff going on,  more silent auction baskets and more people in purple shirts (survivors).  I feel mixed about the more purple shirts.  I am glad so many are survivors, but I hate that so many special people have to battle cancer.

I did’t have my camera out as much as I usually do.  I wanted to capture the event but I also wanted to enjoy time with the family.  This was the first year for a “Goetz” team that walked in honor of Aunt Cheryl that recently passed away.

Enough talk, here are the pictures……The girl scouts volunteered by filling the luminary bags and they also carried a flag in the mini parade.relay2009_011

The famous Starke County Firefighter Honor Guard.  (I say famous because some of the members were in the movie Ladder 49 with John Travolta)  My father-in-law Grover is the guy in the back.  relay2009_016

My friend Jody with her mom and dad.  This was right after Jody gave the best “fight back” speech.  I fought back tears thru most of it. relay2009_099See all of you next year!!!   I will put the rest of the photos I took in the storefront so you can see the rest.

Relay For Life Hamlet, Indiana June 12-13

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Relay For Life is tomorrow at the Starke County Fairgrounds in Hamlet.   If you don’t have anything going on please come out and support the community.  I was talking to my friend Dawn today and she is going for the first time.  She said she would have gone before but no one ever asked her.  (I felt terrible when she said that)  So here in everyone’s invitation.  Even if you are not part of a team, don’t worry you can be on mine.  (right Denise!)   There are so many fun things for kids and adults to do, plus walking, which is good for ya.  High School students, I know Oregon-Davis has a couple groups walking, and I remember last year seeing lots of others from Knox and North Judson there.  There will be a DJ there too!!  (yeah the crew does an awesome job of making a great event)

For those who have never been it is an amazing experience espicially if you or someone you love has dealt with cancer.  Setup starts at around 3-4 on Friday and the opening ceremonies are at 6pm.  Another special event that is a must is the luminaria ceremony (I always get a tear or two during that part) that is at 9pm.  The event ends with an awards ceremony at 9am Saturday.

Here are a couple photos from last year.  Once again Bob and I will be taking photos and I will have them on here and on facebook soon after.   Oh, and about facebook…our group even has a facebook page so check it out, post a special message if you want.  RELAY FACEBOOK  and to register online or make a donation go HERE

One more thing… I will have a 1 hour photo session in the silent auction.  So go bid, I want to raise BIG MONEY!!!

Here are some photos from last year.  Bob took the HOPE one.  I just love it.

I can’t stress enough how much fun it is and how it will make you feel good about taking part in such a special event.  If you are a blog stalker make sure you say hi if you see me (I will be the one with a camera in my hands and blue tshirt with committee on the back).  I like to know who is out there reading.  See you all tomorrow night!!!!!

Huge Congrats to all the KHS 2009 Graduates. Good luck out there in the global world (LOL inside joke for all those that were there).   I really enjoyed your commencement.  It has been a long time since I attented one.  I hope to make it to future ones.  I was hired by a parent to be there but made sure I grabbed shots of other seniors I knew.

I also have to say I felt so welcome at your school.  We have such awesome young adults in our community!!

I will post all the photos I took in my storefront.

khsapril2009_03

I had the pleasure of teaching a class on Monday.  I was asked to cover portraits with the students other then that I pretty much was turned lose to do whatever.  There are only four students in the class and one was absent (I think they heard I was coming).  So instead of doing much talking I mostly had them do alot of shooting.  I had a couple different setups for them and let them fire away and then we talked about the good and bad about the photos.  At the very end of the class I had each kid take turns shooting the rest of us flipping thru the pictures.  Here is what they came up with….

Here is Nicole’s shot..khsapril2009_05

Here is Derek’s..khsapril2009_06

Here is Alexis’… khsapril2009_04

Thanks you three for totally making my day.  It was so much fun, and I will try to make it back before the school year is over.  I would be over all the time if it wasn’t for being swamped with work.

Take lots of pictures!!!khsapril2009_02

Photographers Having Fun in Indianapolis

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Monday and Tuesday I spent time in Indy at the Omni Hotel hanging out with some amazing people.  Sat and listened to some awesome speakers from all over the country and also did some shooting.   Here are some photos from Tuesday.  All the photos from Monday are on my point and shoot and those are more facebook worthy so what I can share I will put on there.

First I have to tell Mark from LaCour (he’s one of the top wedding photographers in the world) thanks for sharing so much with us.  You are an amazing photographer and most importantly an awesome person.  It is appreciated how you spent so much time with us and answered all our questions.  Oh, and you make a reallly good light stand too… (mark is holding my flash for me in the next photo)

Thanks girls that were our models…. Brandi, Sarah, Jamie, Jenna, Grant and Leandra, I know I am missing someone, I will have to find the rest of my business cards I got from everyone.  It was appreciated, espicially since I was sooo not willing.

And huge thanks to my bestest photographer buddy ever Mike Wise.  If it wasn’t for you I would have never gone and for KC for organizing everything.
